Crashplan stops communiting with Cloud

January 23, 2016 by chrisbog

It seems like there is an issue with over 1 million files or the backup size if over 1TB.  As a result, CrashPlan may be running out of memory on the computer.

By default, CrashPlan is only allowed to access 1024 MB of memory (regardless of how much is available on the computer). When the file selection exceeds one million files and/or the archive size exceeds 1 TB, this often isn’t enough.

If you can open the application:

Please follow the instructions below to allocate more memory to the CrashPlan backup engine:

Open the CrashPlan app
Double-click the CrashPlan logo in the upper-right
Copy and paste the following bolded text into the box:

java mx 2048, deauthorize, restart

Press enter
CrashPlan will close to apply the change.

To confirm that the setting applied, reopen the CrashPlan application and repeat the steps above. This time type java mx in the command line window.
